The basics
IT staff augmentation is a way to fill skill gaps in your engineering team with engineers you pick and direct, without a hiring cycle. unosquare provides it with vetted nearshore and onshore engineers who work your hours. You add software engineers, QA specialists and other technical roles to the workflow you already run, in weeks instead of the months a hire takes. They join your teams, attend your standups and work in your tools, and you keep full control of the development process.
The real problem
The work keeps arriving, your team has no slack left and a wrong hire costs a quarter. We carry as much of that risk as we can, so less of it lands on you.
The role you defer is the role you still need next quarter, with less runway to deliver it.
There is no slack left to absorb the work, and nobody spare to run the interviews.
Severance, re-recruiting and a release that has already slipped. That cost lands on you.
Use Capacity for seasonal spikes, short-term projects or permanent gaps in your hiring pipeline.
How it works
Define the role, meet the shortlist and have an engineer contributing inside a month. You approve every engineer before they join.
Day 1
The role, not a keyword list. We agree the skills, seniority, availability and pricing with you.
Days 2 to 5
We match engineers on work, stack, culture and industry and send you a shortlist. You choose between qualified engineers instead of screening applicants.
Days 6 to 10
Your team runs a one-on-one and decides on the fit. We coordinate the scheduling.
Days 11 to 21
We handle employment, hardware and access, then run the codebase walkthrough. The engineer is contributing by day 14 to 21. Still paying an outgoing partner while we ramp? We do not bill those weeks.

Compare People models
All three People models draw on the same vetted engineers. They differ in who assesses each engineer, who manages delivery and how much of your team’s time they take.
| Criterion | Capacity | Teams | Managed Services |
|---|---|---|---|
| Roadmap | Yours, directed by your leads | Your product roadmap | The SLAs we agree and our performance against them |
| Who shapes the lineup | You pick each engineer for a specific gap | We shape the team to your roadmap and technology | We staff pods to your coverage window and SLA scope |
| Who assesses each engineer | Your team interviews and approves every engineer | Your team interviews and validates the team leads. The leads interview and accept each engineer | As in Teams: our team leads interview and accept each engineer |
| Who accepts replacements | Your team | The team leads | The team leads |
| Who manages delivery and performance | Your team | We do | We do, against SLAs with service credits |
| Who manages the engineer | We do | We do | We do |
| Draw on your team | Highest: you interview, onboard and direct each engineer | Lower: you validate the leads and set the roadmap | Low: you agree the SLAs and review a monthly dashboard |
| Start | Fastest: 2 to 4 weeks to place an engineer | Slower: the team leads come first, and they take the most care to choose | Staffed within 2 to 4 weeks, SLA governance live by week 15 |
| Acceleration | Steady: every added engineer still waits on your interviews and your leads’ time | Rapid once the leads are in: each pod stands up in 2 to 4 weeks, and the leads interview and accept the engineers | Overstaffed at launch, right-sized by week 17, then a known monthly fee at steady state |
| Best when | You need a specific skill in quickly and have leads with the time to direct each engineer | You need to scale a team quickly without adding load on your team | You want production systems run to agreed SLAs |

People and Projects
People · Trusted nearshore and onshore engineers who work your hours.
Projects · You bring a defined problem and a budget. We fix the scope and the fee, then deliver.
Before you start
Software development staff augmentation is hiring individual engineers on a short- to medium-term basis to scale your team without permanent headcount. We identify, vet, employ and onboard them. You manage them day to day as if they were your own. You pay a monthly rate per engineer and scale up or down with notice. You get flexible capacity without the overhead of hiring, benefits or taxes.
Staff augmentation rates depend on seniority, technology and engagement length. Every rate is fully loaded: one transparent monthly rate per engineer, with no hidden charge for benefits, overhead or infrastructure. We charge no recruiting fee, no placement fee and nothing for the vetting. While you are still paying an outgoing partner through a knowledge transfer, we do not bill our onboarding. Most teams pay well below the fully loaded cost of a US hire at the same quality. Price a team with the calculator, or tell us the roles on a 30-minute call and we come back with a written rate.
Each engineer takes 2 to 4 weeks from an agreed role to contributing in your codebase. We agree the role on day one and send a shortlist by day five. Your team interviews and approves every engineer in days 6 to 10, and onboarding runs to day 21. Staff augmentation is the fastest way to start. It doesn’t accelerate like a team, though: every added engineer still waits on your interviews and your leads’ time. If you need to scale quickly after the start, a dedicated development team gets there faster once its leads are in place.
You do. They join your standups, your board and your review process, and your leads set the priorities and manage delivery performance, with no separate vendor management layer in between. We manage the engineer: SLAs, performance management, health checks, improvement plans, training and retention, with dedicated commercial and delivery support alongside the engineer.
We replace them at no additional cost, no questions asked. Tell us early and we start on the replacement straight away. Your team interviews and approves the replacement, as it did the first engineer. The incoming engineer overlaps with the outgoing one to take the handover, and we carry that time rather than bill you for two people on one seat. The same rule applies on the way in: while you are still paying a previous partner through a transfer, we do not bill our onboarding. Context does not sit in one person’s head either. We keep a knowledge base for your account, so architecture decisions, security standards and process conventions survive a change of face.
We are SOC 2 and HIPAA compliant and work inside PCI-DSS scope for financial-services clients. We build compliance in from day one rather than bolt it on. Engineers work on your systems under your access controls and your policies. All IP they create is yours, assigned in the contract from the start.
With staff augmentation you pick each engineer for a specific gap, your team interviews and approves every one, and your leads direct the work and manage delivery. We manage the engineer. It still scales, from one to five engineers up to a squad of six to ten. With a dedicated team, your team validates the team leads, the leads build the team and we manage delivery and performance. A team starts slower, because the leads come first, then accelerates faster and takes less of your team’s time. With Managed Services, we run your production systems to SLAs you agree. Plenty of clients start on staff augmentation and move to a dedicated team once the work settles.
Most sit in our own nearshore engineering hubs in Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Bolivia and Paraguay, covering US Eastern through Pacific. We also have a nearshore hub in the UK and onshore teams in the US. Every engineer is a unosquare employee working from a unosquare delivery center, not a freelancer found on a marketplace.
Outsourcing is project-based: a vendor owns the outcome, manages the team and delivers a result. Staff augmentation is people-based: you select the individuals, you direct them and you own the outcome. We supply the people and carry the employment, compliance and performance management. Use outsourcing for a well-defined, isolated project; our fixed-fee Outcomes model covers that. Use augmentation for ongoing capacity and hands-on control of the work.
Backend in .NET and C#, Java, Python, PHP, Node.js, Go, Ruby on Rails and Rust. Frontend in React, Angular, Vue, Next.js and TypeScript. Full stack across the same. Mobile in Swift and Objective-C on iOS, Kotlin and Java on Android, plus React Native. Beyond that: AI and ML, data and analytics, cyber security, DevOps and SRE on Kubernetes, Terraform and CI/CD, IT operations, QA and QA automation, solution architects and UX and UI design. Agile roles too: business analysts, product managers and technical delivery managers. Enterprise platform work covers Salesforce, SAP, Oracle, Workday and NetSuite, integrated with Mulesoft or Workato. Seniority runs from junior to principal. We recruit against real client demand, so ask about a stack you do not see here. If we cannot staff a role to our own standard, we will tell you rather than sell you a near-miss.
A staffing agency is paid to place a candidate, so its job ends where yours begins. The engineers we place are our own full-time employees, so we carry their performance, their retention and the cost of replacing them. We charge no placement fee. We do not bill our onboarding while you are still paying another partner to hand over. And we will not send you a profile we have not tested.
