Designing Precision: A Unified Interface for Tissue Processing Systems

9 months consolidating UI and performance for Roche’s Ventana platform.

Ventana unified instrument interface showing host view of multiple tissue processors and detailed carousel monitoring with real-time temperature tracking and slide management

Results

Unified the design and functionality across multiple lab devices into one consistent, modern interface.

Rebuilt the core backend from Delphi to C#, improving maintainability and system reliability.

Created a reusable library of UI components for future scalability and updates.

Enhanced traceability and efficiency in cancer tissue testing workflows.

Highlights / Intro

Ventana, a subsidiary of Roche, develops automated systems used in cancer tissue testing worldwide.

To support innovation in diagnostics, they needed to consolidate multiple legacy UIs used across instruments and lab management software into a single, cohesive platform; one that delivered both visual consistency and clinical accuracy.

unosquare partnered with Ventana to unify their digital ecosystem, modernizing both the design and backend foundations to meet the precision and compliance standards required in healthcare environments.

Challenge

Each diagnostic device had its own UI and backend codebase, leading to:

Fragmented workflows and inconsistent user experiences.

Difficult maintenance and high training time across lab teams.

Limited scalability for future product lines.

Ventana needed a consistent design system and modern architecture capable of supporting data accuracy, usability, and long-term innovation across global devices.

Solution

unosquare consolidated the UI design of all instruments, creating a unified visual language and developing reusable components aligned with Roche’s clinical design standards.
We rebuilt the core backend from Delphi to C#, establishing a stable, maintainable foundation for future features.
Data flow was standardized across instruments, ensuring precision and traceability from interface to database; a key improvement in regulated lab environments.
